Mechanical and Chemical digestion
WHat is the pathway of the food?
Mouth, Pharynx, Esophagus, Stomach, Small intestine, Large intestine.
Organ bounded to lips and cheeks, has teeth, tongue and palette.
Mouth
Organ that Recieves air from the nasal cavities and food from the mouth
Pharynx
Organ that A muscular tube that joins with the stomach in the abdominal cavity
Esophagus
Organ that Movement where food goes down the esophagus
Peristalsis
A thick-walled, J-shaped organ that lies on the left side of the abdominal cavity below the liver and the diaphragm

Ascending transverse Descending, Sigmoid.
Disorder where there is a hole in the stomach.
Peptic Ulcer
Disorder where the acids in the stomach go up the esophagus
Gastrointestinal reflux
What is the function of the respiratory system?
Entrance and exit of air in and out of the lungs Exchange of gases between air and vlood Exchange of gases between blod and tissue fluid Production of ATP in cells
What is the order of the respiratory tract?
Nose, Pharynx, Larynx, Trachea, Lungs, Bronch, Alveoli
Organ that contains 2 nasal cavities separated by the septum
Nose
Organ that is funnel shaped that connect the nasal and oral cavities.
Pharynx
Organ: Cartilgous structure between the pharynx and the trachea.
Larynx
Organ, Flexible tube that connects the larynx woth bronchi
Trachea
Organ that divides the trachea into 2 branches which lead into each lung.
Bronchi
Soft paired organs that contain the bronchial tree.
Lungs
Organ that is the site of gas exchange
Alveoli
What are the 3 respiratory volumes (explain)
Tidal volume: normal respiration Vital capacity: maximum volume that can be moved Residual Volume: AIr that remains in the lungs that is no longer useful for gas exchange
What happens with the diaphragm when we inhale?
It contracts/ lowers
Where does external respiration occur?
In the alveoli
where does internal respiration occur?
Between blood and tissue fluid.
A respiratory infection in one or both lungs caused by bacteria.
Pneumonia
Chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. It containd wheezing and breathlessness in its symptoms
Asthma
A viral infection located in the respiratory tract. Sore throaut, coughing, congestion, headache, etc,
Common cold.
Chronic, Obstructive, pulmonary disease. Persistent and heavy vough, lots of mucus, fever, etc.
Chronic Bronchitis
What are the 4 cavities of the heart?
Left and right ventricles and atriums
Function of the cardiovascular system:
Circulate blood through the body
Vessel that takes blood away from the heart
Arteries
Vessel that takes blood back to the heart
Veins
Describe the passage of the blood through the heart.
Blood enters through the vena cava, and goes to the right atrium, passes through the tricuspide valve into the right ventricle. Thr blood goes to the Pulmonary artery and come back through the pulmonary vein. It goes through the left Atrium, the mitral valve, the left ventricle, and lastly, to the aorta and to the rest of the body.
What type of blood is the universal donor?
O-
What type of blood is the universal recipient?
AB+
What are the percentages of things found in the blood?
%45 blood cellls %55 plasma
Disorder that accumulates plaque under the inner lining of the arteries
Artherosclerosis
Happens when a small cranial artery bursts or is blocked by an embolus
Stroke
When a part of the cardiac tissue dies due to lack of O2 caused by a blockage
Heart attack
Commonly referred as high blood pressure
Hypertension
When the body has insufficient number of RBC
Anemia
Function of the urinary system
Excrete metabolic wastes Maintenance of Salt water balance Secretion of hormones
Oegans that compose the urinary system
Kidneys, Ureters, Bladder, Urethra
how much water can the baldder hold?
250ml
Basic unit of a Kidney
Nephron
