Why is glycolysis unique?
Sequence of reactions varies only in rate regulation & subsequent fate of pyruvate formed
What are two distinct phases in glycolysis
preparatory (energy investment) phase and energy generation phase
What does the prepatory phase include
Includes the phosphorylation of glucose and its conversion to glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate
What does the energy generation phase include
The energy generation phase includes the oxidative conversion of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate to pyruvate
How much ATP is produced in Glycolosis from phosphorolisation ?
4 ATP
How much ATP is produced in Glycolysis per glucose molecule ?
2 ATP
Where does glycolysis start
Glucose
What is the purpose of glycolysis
Oxidation of glucose to pyruvate
Where does glycolysis stop ?
Pyruvate
Cellular location of glycolysis ?
Cytoplasm
Enzymes that assist glycolysis ?
Phosphoglycerate mutase, enolase, pyruvate kinase
Draw the structure of Glucose
Draw the structure of Glucose 6-phosphate
Draw Fructose 6-phosphate
Draw Fructose 1,6-Biphosphate
