  1. The ICTZ moves north of the equator during northern hemisphere summer and south of the equator during the southern hemisphere summer.

  2. What would happen to europe if the thermohaline current stopped. There would be no warm air because the thermohaline current brings alot of it to europe. The temperature would be significantly colder. Instead of lush fields, there would be long winters and sparse landscapes here.

  3. What are the 3 stages of song learning in birds. 1. Sensory period: identifying the right song and begin to sing. This includes critical periods. 2. Sensorimotor period: practicing the song 3. Crystallization period: mastering the song

  4. interspecific interactions They are competitive interactions in which individuals of different species compete for the same resources in an ecosystem.

Biome: distinct physical environment inhabited by ecologically similar organisms with similar adaptations Ecosystem: biological community of interacting species and their physical environment Difference: an ecosystem is describing the interactions among organisms in a set area whereas a biome is describing a specific geographical area which can contain many ecosystems.

Compare/contrast imprinting and fixed action patterns Imprinting- a rapid learning process that has critical periods in which an animal can establish a behavior pattern Fixed action pattern- innate behavior that is triggered by a sign stimulus. Once the animal receives the sign stimulus, the action is carried to completion. Difference- imprinting is learned behavior meanwhile fixed action patterns are genetically determined.

  7. Species turnover Ecological communities change even in constant environments because species may go locally extinct and be replaced by new species that migrate there. The new species can establish a new population and add other species to the community. Succession Species replace one another in a relatively predictable sequence.
