  1. Name 2 methods for constructuring fractals.

iterated function system - use fixed geometric replacement rules. L-system - string rewriting.

  2. Stock’s time-value graph is an example of a stochastic fractal.

It's the same in 6 hours and 6 months.

  3. What constitutes an L-system?

An L-system consists of: production rules (symbol => other symbols), initial "axiom" string from which to begin construction, and a mechanism for translating the generated strings into geometric structures.

  4. For how many years did Bauhaus exist?

    14, ended in 1933

  5. antialiasing is a way to make image look smoother without actually updating the display.

  6. What are two uses of 0?

Empty place indicator in our place-value number system: 2001. Number itself: 0.

  7. Visualization - is any technique for creating images/diagrams/animations to communicate an idea.

  8. Give 2 examples of bad visualization.

Chart indicating that all values are zero. 19% looks like 99999%.

  9. What is constructivism as an art philoslophy? How is it connected to Bauhaus?

Constructivism is the move away from fine art, and the move towards art as being part of design, architecture, propaganda, etc. They wanted to construct art. Both constructivists and Bauhausians were concerned with finding ways of producing art mechanically.

  10. What was Perlin noise originally developed for?

    For more natural texture mappings.

  11. What is a bracketed L-system? What is it useful for?

Usual L-system with rules that use brackets, eg: F − [ + FX ] + X where [ corresponds to saving the current values for position and angle, and ] for restoring them.

  12. How is Pythagoras connected to music?

He discovered that musical notes could be translated into mathematical equations. He is credited for invention of octaves. Another belief attributed to Pythagoras was that of the "harmony of the spheres". Thus the planets and stars moved according to mathematical equations, which corresponded to musical notes and thus produced a symphony

  13. Iannis Xenakis applied mathematics, statistics, and physics to music composition.

  14. Name 3 members of Bauhaus.

Walter Gropius - founder and architect Johannes Itten - invented seasonal colors Wassily Kandinsky - Point And Line To Plane.

  15. What is generative art?

Art that in whole or in part has been created with the use of computer. In some cases the human creator may claim that computer represents their own artistic idea, and in others that the system takes on the role of the creator.

  16. What is affective response?

Instinctual reaction to stimulation that occurs before the typical cognitive processes considered necessary for the formation of a more complex emotion.

  17. What characterizes postmodern art?

Break-up of the barrier between fine and low arts.

  18. What exactly is meant by the display size?

    Display diagonal.

  19. What's a bitmap?

Bitmap is a rectangular mesh of pixels, each containing a color value. The color depth is always the same for all the pixels in a particular bitmap. Because a bitmap uses a raster graphics method of specifying an image, the image cannot be immediately rescaled by a user without losing definition. A vector graphics graphic image, however, is designed to be quickly rescaled.

  20. What's color depth VS bit depth?

Same. Amount of bits used to represent a color of single pixel in a bitmap.

  21. What's pixelation?

When we display a bitmap at such a large size that individual pixels that comprise the bitmap are visible.

  22. Name 2 types of image file formats.

    raster (jpeg, png) vector (svg)

  23. What is tessellation of a flat surface?

Tiling of a plane using one or more geometric shapes, called tiles, with no overlaps and no gaps.
