Types of data
Nonmetric or qualitative data: presence of a feature Metric or quantitative: quantifying an attribute
Measurement scales
nominal: 0 or 1 ordinal: rankable interval: no zero ratio: zero is a reference
Types of missing data
Missing Completely At Random does not depend on variables Missing At Random does depend on variables
handle missing data
ignore delete pair sample size doesn't change inconsistent sample size listwise complete dataset biased data due to MCAR impute mean hot deck replace with similar respondent cold deck select donor from another dataset Rules < 10%: Ignore or use any imputation method 10-20 %: Hot deck imputation (assuming MCAR) >10%: Delete
Choose an adequate technique for the analysis
Is the sample size large enough? Are the assumptions required by the chosen analysis technique satisfied by the data? Do we have all the necessary data to apply correctly the chosen analysis technique?
types of samples
independent samples no correspondence in data dependent samples correspondence in data always same number of observations
