  13. Dynamic pump Operating Principle of Centrifugal pumps

The liquid enters at the center of the rotating part (impeller) inside the casing of a centrifugal pump. The liquid is then thrown outward by the centrifugal force of the impeller at maximum velocity into the gradually expanding passageway of the casing.

  33. Dynamic pump What is the function of bearing

Bearings allow the shaft to rotate freely and prevent radial and axial movement of the shaft.

  34. Dynamic pump Types of bearings Rolling Plain

  35. Dynamic pump Bearings require lubrication which is either oil or grease. Generally with rolling bearings the small pumps tend to be grease lubricated and large pumps use lubricating oil. Plain journal bearings are only lubricated by oil.

  39. What is head

The vertical distance from pump centre line to the surface of a liquid, representing the maximum height or pressure that a pump can deliver

  40. What is static suction head and static suction lift? And what is the difference between them.

Both mean the vertical distance from the liquid supply surface to the pump centre line. The difference between them is the level of the supply: Static suction head: liquid supply level is above pump centre line. Static suction lift: liquid supply level is below the pump centre line.

  41. What is static discharge head

  57. The flow of liquid through a reciprocating piston pump is controlled by check / non return valve.

  58. Explain the cycle of the piston pump

At the beginning of the backward stroke, both suction and discharge valves are closed. As the piston moves backward the pressure in the cylinder decreases below the suction line pressure. Suction valve opens, discharge valve closes and the liquid enters the cylinder. As the piston moves forward, cylinder pressure increases. The suction valve closes and the discharge valve opens. and a volume of liquid is displaced from the cylinder on the piston forward stroke.
