1. Explain how a cyclotron produces a high‑energy proton beam

   An alternating electric-field accelerates the protons between the dees. The magnetic field perpendicular to the plane of the dees causes the proton path to curve. As the velocity of the protons increases, the radius of the path of curvature in the dees increases. The frequency of the electric field remains constant.
