What's preamble and the body in LaTeX?
The preamble consists of the commands up to the line \begin{document}, and it contains all the instructions that LATEX requires before actually creating the document. The body contains the text of the document itself. Any text after the \end{document} is ignored by LATEX.
What's the notation for the control sequence (==command) and the argument?
\command{argument}
What files does the Latex compilation produce?
Who invented Latex?
Donald Knuth
What's environment in Latex?
A pair of commands, where content is enclosed between \begin{environment} and \end{environment}, forms an environment.
How will these 3 equations be displayed?
$y = mx+c$ - maths mode, inline y=mx+c - plain text \[\cos^2 \theta + \sin^2 \theta = 1\] - maths mode, displayed maths mode
What is the difference between typing \cos and cos while in maths mode?
You should use the command \cos to typeset the cos function, as this will help readers of your document to identify that you mean the function cos, rather than the three single-letter symbols c, o and s.
How to create superscripts ab and subscripts ab?
ab - a^b ab - a_b
Create the equation xa × xb = xa+b.
$x^a \times x^b = x^{a+b}$
What are scalable brackets?
Brackets that can change their size depending on what's inside of them.
How to align this code next to equal signs? \[ y = x^2-3x-4\\ = x^2-4x+x-4\\ = (x-4)(x+1). \]
\begin{align*} y &= x^2-3x-4\\ &= x^2-4x+x-4\\ &= (x-4)(x+1). \end{align*} Note that you do not need $...$ or \[...\] around this code, because the align* environment automatically knows to use displayed maths mode. Also, this code has been typed so that the equals signs are aligned, but this is just to help you read it.Second is the ampersand symbol, &. On each line of mathematics within the align* environment, there is one & symbol.
Why is this environment called pmatrix?
pmatrix - round parentheses matrix bmatrix - square brackets vmatrix - vertical lines You may be wondering why the name of the pmatrix environment begins with the letter 'p'. This stands for 'parentheses', which is another name for the round brackets containing the entries of the matrix. It is needed to distinguish it from two other matrix constructions: bmatrix, which gives the matrix square brackets, andvmatrix, which places vertical lines on either side of the matrix. You need only the pmatri…
