  1. Type I Hypersensitivity

Pre-formed antibodies (primary response). The Abs bind to mast cells and antigen binds & cross-links IgE causing mast cell degranulation. Th2 secretes IL-4 causing B-cell class switching to IgE -NO complement.

  2. Type II Hypersensitivity

    IgM, IgG antibodies

  4. Type IV hypersensitivity

    Granuloma formation.

Macrocytic anemia with low reticulocyte count. Differential is MDS or b12/folate deficiency. **Antibodies to intrinsic factor associated with Macrocytic Anemia. Pernicious Anemia due to deficiency of B12. - Hepcidin production (made in liver does things with iron blocking absorption in gut, releasing iron from macrophages, increases with inflammation or infection and causes anemia of inflammation. Normocytic anemia. - Ankyrin Deficiency is Hereditary spherocytosis, normocytic/microcytic anemia.…

  9. Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (subtype of Acute Myeloid Leukemia) Hypergranular promyelocytes with MANY Auer Rods. Associated with DIC because granules and MANY Auer rods may be released with contents activating coagulation and cause DIC. t(15;17) --> PML/RARA fusion protein stops maturation of promyelocyte. Treat with Vit. A derivative + Arsenic +/- Chemo Prognosis is more favorable than any other subtype of AML. Acute Myeloid Leukemia:

  10. What is Rhogam treatment?

Rhogam is Ig that binds up Rh Ag on fetus RBCs, so they are removed from the mother before she mounts an immune response against the fetus. Prevents erythroblastosis fetalis.

  11. Leukemia in down syndrome patient?

Before the age of 5= Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia (subtype AML) Lacks MPO After age of 5 = Acute Lympocytic Leukemia TdT (+) ALL arises in children. Bcell type of ALL has poor prognosis if t(9;22) which is normally in CML.
