  1. Describe antiparticles in relation to their counterparts.

    Have the same mass and rest energy as their corresponding particles, but they have the opposite charge, lepton, and baryon number.

  2. What is the antiparticle of the electron?

    Positron

  3. What is the rest energy of a particle?

    The energy the particle would have if all of its mass were converted into energy.

  4. What is 1MeV1MeV1MeV in JJJ ?

    1MeV1MeV1MeV = 1.6⋅10−131.6 \cdot 10^{-13}1.6⋅10−13 JJJ

  5. What are the types of electromagnetic radiation in the electromagnetic spectrum?

    Gamma rays, X-rays, Ultra-violet light, Visible light, Infrared light, Micro waves, Radio waves

  6. What is the value of Planck's Constant? (h)(h)(h)

    6.63⋅10−346.63 \cdot 10^{-34}6.63⋅10−34

  7. What are photons?

    Particles of electromagnetic radiation.

  8. What is the equation for energy of a photon?

    E=hfE = hfE=hf or E=hcλE = \frac{hc}{\lambda}E=λhc

  9. Describe annihilation

    When a particle meets its antiparticle, they annihilate each other, and their mass is converted into energy, in the form of two gamma ray photons.

  10. What is the minimum energy of emitted photons during annihilation?

    The rest energy of the particle or antiparticle (the energy is the same).

  11. Describe pair production

    When a photon with high enough energy interacts with a large nucleus, it can be converted into a particle - antiparticle pair.

  12. What is the minimum energy required for a photon to undergo pair production?

    The total rest energy of the the particles produced.

  13. When is γ\gammaγ radiation emitted?

    After α\alphaα or β\betaβ emission, γ\gammaγ emission can follow.

  14. What are the energy and mass of a photon?

    No energy and no mass.

  15. What are the four fundamental interactions?

    Electromagnetic. Strong Nuclear. Weak Nuclear. Gravity.

  16. What is electromagnetic interaction? What is the exchange particle?

    The force between charged particles. Exchange particle: Virtual photon ( γ\gammaγ ).

  17. What is the strong nuclear interaction? What is the exchange particle?

    The force between quarks (hadrons). Exchange particle: Gluon (pions)
