  1. What is diffusion and confusion?

Diffusion Diffusion is to hide the relationship between plain text and the cipher text. It means a small change in plain text has a large change in cipher text Confusion Confusion is to hide the relationship between key and cipher text. The strength of whole cipher text depends upon the key and making it more complex

  2. What is MOM?

Method-> Skills knowledge, tools to attack Opportunity -> Time and Access to attack MOtive -> Reason to want to perform this attack against the system. Deny any of these and the attack wouldn't occur.

  3. Types of Attacks

CryptAnalytic Attacks: Exploit mathematical weakness of cryptographic algorithm Non-CryptAnalytic Attack: Threats to goal of security.

  4. Security Attacks

  5. Threats to confidentiality

    Snooping Traffic Analysis

  6. Threats to integrity

    Modification Masquerading Replaying Repudiation

  7. Repudiation

If you've done a transaction, any one of the two parties invloved shouldn't be able to deny that such a transaction hasnt taken place.

  8. Security Services

Confidentiality Authentication Integrity Non-repudiation Access Control Availability-> Denial of Service and virus that deletes the files

  9. Notarization

If theres a document and it has been notarized, it may seem to the receiver that its official.

  10. Kerchoffs Principle

We assume that the algorithm is known to the intruder and that the resistance of the cipher to attack must only be dependent on the secrecy of the key.
