  1. Name some microorganisms used in production of industrial ethanol

Bacteria: Clostridium thermocerum Yeasts: Saccharomyces sp. Zymomonas Sp. Trichoderma sp. Kluyveromyces sp.

  2. Is the industrial production of ethanol from corn profitable? Why or why no?

corn is expensive but it is a very stable market; in addition, we have to consider the cost of the extraction, the fermentation… Thus, it is not a very profitable industry. It is mainly used in Brasil and USA, who are also the main demanders.

  3. Explain the obtention of biodiesel from cyanobacteria: How can we obtain biodiesel from cyano bacteria Is there any fermentation involved in this process What is the importance of this from an ecological point of view?

The production of alcohol as a fuel to mix with ethanol may not be the first choice for many countries, but some people are using cyanobacteria that capture CO2, and they contain a lot of fatty acids in the membrane equivalent to the fatty acids present in biodiesel. If we extract these fatty acids from the cyanobacteria we can theoretically use it as biodiesel. It is only an extraction, there is no fermentation. From the ecological point of view we are recycling CO2 because although we may pro…
