Autotroph
organisms that can make their own food
Heterotroph
organisms that need to consume food to have energy
ATP
adenosine triphosphate the more technical term for energy three phosphates
Photosynthesis
the process that converts light energy to make energy 6H2O (water) + light energy + 6CO2 (carbon dioxide) = 6O2 (oxygen) + C6H12O6 (glucose, sugar)
Cellular Respiration
the process that converts [consumed] glucose (sugar) to ATP (energy) 6O2 (oxygen) + C6H12O6 (glucose, sugar) = 6H2O (water) + ATP (energy) + 6CO2 (carbon dioxide)
Mitochondria
the organelle that cellular respiration takes place
Chloroplast
the organelle that photosynthesis takes place
Thylakoid
the "pancakes" or "coins" of the chloroplast
Stroma
the "syrup" of the chloroplast
Product
the "result" (what goes out) of a reaction
Reactant
the "ingredients" (what goes in) of a reaction
-ose
carbohydrates (sugar)
