What is critical damping?
A force that reduces the the amplitude in the shortest possible time.
What is overdamping?
When the system takes longer to return to equilibrium than a critically damped system.
What are the graphs for light and heavy damping?
What are damping forces?
Forces that cause a system to lose energy to the surroundings such as frictional forces and reduces the amplitude over time.
What are free vibrations?
Vibrations where no energy is transferred to or from the surroundings.
What are forced vibrations?
Vibrations when there is an external driving force applied to the system periodically.
What is the resonant frequency?
The frequency at which free vibrations take place.
What is the driving frequency?
The frequency of the periodic external force causing the forced vibrations.
What is the amplitude-driving frequency\text{amplitude-driving frequency}amplitude-driving frequency graph?
What is the amplitude-driving frequency\text{amplitude-driving frequency}amplitude-driving frequency for systems with various damping levels?
