Energy
Ability to do work/create change (change = work)
Joules
Unit of measurement for Energy
Work
Force times distance, The change that results from energy
Power
Work over time
Watts
Joules per second
Efficiency
Output over Input
Output
The amount of energy created (measured in watt hours)
Input
The amount of fuel put into a reaction that creates energy
Fossil Fuel
Non renewable fuels created by fossils being crushed under the earth's crust for a long time
Renewable
Energy that we will not run out of.
Non-renewable
Energy that we will run out of.
Generator
A magnet being pushed/pulled or turned inside of a coil of copper
Turbine
A fan with a stick on it attached to a magnet that uses mechanical energy to spin the magnet inside of a conductive metal coil, electrons on the magnet coil are then excited which causes them to fall off and we can use those electrons to power machines
Conservation vs. efficiency
Saving energy by not doing something vs. Not using as much energy to do the same thing
Insulation
Material used to keep in heat, reducing that amount of energy needed to heat a home
Cogeneration
Heat and electricity being taken from power plants instead of only energy, efficiency goes from 20% to 60ish%
