a mixture in which constituents are distributed uniformly i.e. salt in water
homogeneous mixture
a mixture whose constituents are clearly separate from one another i.e. sand in water or fruit salad
heterogeneous mixture
a mixture made up of two or more different chemical substances which are not chemically bonded. i.e. Trail Mix
mixture
a pure element OR compound that cannot be separated by physical means i.e. Water or gold
substance
In a chemical reaction, these are converted to one or more different substances, the products i.e. Iron & Oxygen
Reactants
In a chemical reaction, reactants are converted to these. i.e. Rust
Products
In this type of chemical reaction, complex chemical compounds are created from simpler ones. i.e. A + B = AB
Synthesis Reaction
In this type of chemical reaction, compounds break down into simpler ones. i.e. AB = A + B
Decomposition Reaction
In this type of chemical reaction, an atom in a molecule is replaced by another atom. i.e. AB + C = AC + B
Single Replacement Reaction
In this type of chemical reaction, 2 atoms in a molecule are replaced by another 2 atoms. i.e. AB + CD = AD + CB
Double Replacement Reaction
In this type of chemical reaction, reactants including oxygen produce water and CO₂ i.e. AB + Oxygen = CO₂ + Water
Combustion Reaction
In this type of chemical reaction, reactants of an acid and base produce water and a salt. It is also a type of double replacement reaction. i.e. Acid + Base = Water + Salt
Neutralization Reaction
