  1. What does TMS stand for?

Tension myositis syndrome A name given by John E. Sarno to a condition of psychogenic musculoskeletal and nerve symptoms, most notably back pain. Sarno described TMS in four books, and stated that the condition may be involved in other pain disorders as well. The treatment protocol for TMS includes education, writing about emotional issues, resumption of a normal lifestyle and, for some patients, support meetings and/or psychotherapy.

  2. Visually imagine Freud's: superego VS ego VS id.

superego - parent ego - us id - child The id, ego, and super-ego are a set of three concepts in psychoanalytic theory describing distinct, interacting agents in the psychic apparatus (defined in Sigmund Freud's structural model of the psyche). The three agents are theoretical constructs that describe the activities and interactions of the mental life of a person. In the ego psychology model of the psyche, the id is the set of uncoordinated instinctual desires; the super-ego plays the critical a…

  3. Visually imagine: placebo VS nocebo.

placebo - empty, causes good because you believe it will nocebo - empty, causes bad because you believe it will Is it any wonder that some people can get better reading a book that explains the true reason for the pain and tells them that in reality they have normal backs, that most herniated discs are normal abnormalities? That is reversing the nocebo, not by placebo, but by enlisting the power of the mind to heal the body. More specifically, TMS is "cured" by teaching people to be aware of th…

  4. Visually imagine: primary gain VS secondary gain VS tertiary gain.

primary gain - internal motivator secondary gain - external motivator tertiary gain - when someone else entirely benefits. In my experience with TMS, chronic pain has the same pathophysiology as acute pain; chronicity and severity are a function of the importance of the underlying psychologic state that required the pain as distraction in the first place. To base treatment on secondary gain is doubly in error: It fails to recognize the true etiology of the pain, thereby helping to perpetuate ra…

  5. Visually imagine Alexander Technique.

It's about posture. The Alexander Technique, named after its developer Frederick Matthias Alexander (1869–1955), is a type of alternative therapy based on the idea that poor posture gives rise to a range of health problems.Sessions include chair work – often in front of a mirror – during which the instructor will guide the student while the student stands, sits and walks, learning to move efficiently while maintaining a comfortable relationship between the head, neck, and spine, and table work…
